i am not affiliated with the authors so am not shilling for anyone, but in case anyone needs a hex editor for the mac, this free mac app seems to be pretty nifty - figured it might be useful to the legions of mapmakers wanting to make TFL campaigns.
it's got the usual 'overwrite' mode, but it's also got a insert/delete mode.

OS X hex editor
Re: OS X hex editor
I still much prefer HexEdit. It's pretty funky (and old), but it's free and it works.
HexFiend wasn't terrible, but too much of it is just uses standard Cocoa behaviors. Carbon controls were more sensible (Cocoa's equivalents differ just enough from the classic Mac way to never seem to be quite as usable to me).

Re: OS X hex editor
Yeah, it's been around for probably close to 20 years now.
The Mac OS X version isn't the cleanest app (it's most obviously a classic application at heart, although it no longer runs under classic), but I prefer the editor and search behaviors over HexFiend (with its use of mostly standard AppKit elements).

Re: OS X hex editor
I'm developing Synalyze It! - a new free hex editor for Mac OS X.
It allows you to edit files of any size and lets you create "grammars" for binary files. Also printing and features you don't find in other hex editors are included. Just give it a try and tell me what you think!
