Myth lags when I host and a player drops

Like the subject says, when I'm hosting, Myth will suddenly freeze for about 5-10 seconds before telling me that a player has dropped. This happens every time someone drops. To be honest, I don't remember when this started happening, but I've finally decided to say something and see if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it.

I'm running 1.7.2, but this problem has occurred in previous patches as well. I have a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 iMac, Mac OS 10.3.9.

Also, I learned today that the same thing happens to East Wind, so I can get him to post his specs if that helps.

When it "freezes", are you completely unable to move the camera or, is it just the game itself "lagging" (i.e. units stop moving)? If it's the former, something is happening locally on your machine and the people dropping is a byproduct of that (if they don't get a signal from your computer for some amount of time, they will be drop).

From what I remember, a player dropping often involves a bit of lag for the players. Presumably something happens on the host-side that might take a while to finish, lagging everyone in the game. I don't think it's anything new - but it's something that might be worth looking into for a future update.
