I still think this would make an awesome myth 4 engine ... free & cross platform as well.
Re: Myth POV: Wow!
is the game environment that was mentioned a few months back?
Re: Myth POV: Wow!
I think a first person POV might be an interesting take on Myth, recall back to the dorf running in the first youtube clip.

Hi there Capital! It is a sheer coincidence that I found this site today and that this subject was at the very top of the boards. I am a Game Designer and a student that have had a deep love for the Myth series since it came out.capital wrote:I think a first person POV might be an interesting take on Myth, recall back to the dorf running in the first youtube clip.
I have been working on a conversion of myth that would turn it from a RTS into a full fledged classbased FPS (First-Person-Slasher). I have been petitioning Bungie to make this themselves, but since I've gotten no answer I decided to have a go at it myself.
Design wise it's a breeze as Bungie has been kind enough to give us each unit's statistics in the Fear & Loathing kit.
Program wise is a bit of a problem though, but I don't think it will be impossible.
I could tell you more about it if you guys are interested.
Re: Myth POV: Wow!
fyi: Currently, even if they wanted to, Bungie couldn't make a FPS Myth game because they sold the Myth games and the intellectual property rights of the Myth games/world to TakeTwoInteractive back when they joined forces with Microsoft.

I'm well aware of it, but they sure aren't doing much with it. I'm quite sure that Bungie could get it back if they wanted too.
Still it's not impossible for some other company to pick up the torch.

No problem, I agree both that Take2 isn't doing anything with it, and that Bungie or someone else could look into purchasing the rights if they wanted.
Also, I wasn't meaning my comment as discouragement, a lot of people aren't aware that Bungie doesn't own the rights, and I didn't know if you were aware or not, so my comment was just to let you know why Bungie might not respond.

I am friends with a number of Bungie employees who are still around from the Myth days. I know for a fact that Bungie approached Take2 when they spun out from MS back in '07, and Take2 whipped out an absurd figure and put it on the table, which shows you how out of touch Take2 is. If they made a deal with Bungie they could distribute new copies and updates for some revenue, but instead Take2 has just thrown the Myth series in the corner where it's sat the last 10 years.Blackwaltz wrote:I'm well aware of it, but they sure aren't doing much with it. As far as another company goes, the problem isn't finding someone who wants to, it's always been getting Take2 to actually communicate. There have been several attempts, but it always dies since no one can seem to get in touch with anyone at Take2 who knows what the hell they are doing.
It's both sad and upsetting.

Oh no hard feelings. I might have come across as a bit snappy there, and I it wasn't my intention. This information was very valuable to me, and I thank you a lot for it. Miscommunication is a real plague in the gaming business and to think that Take2 can't handle things better is sad (but not that much of a shock).I am friends with a number of Bungie employees who are still around from the Myth days. Still it is obvious that Bungie cares a lot for Myth. In every Halo game I can think of there is some nod or reference to the series.
It will be interesting to see if there will be some kind of response from my project, though. Maybe most fans prefer to see Myth remain a RTS and I would love to see more of them, but I think that my idea has some potential.
Would anyone here be interested in testing the game when I've had a chance to work on it?
Cheers!
