need some advice

So, i found my self in a situation were i am getting free education all paid for and i want to do something along the lines of 3d and digital media animation and gaming but i am not sure what is the most effective study to do to be in that industry . i would like some advice of the best thing to do here and were to start if anyone knows thank you .

Whatever you study, learn to write code. I work with about 20 games startups and the guys who call the shots are the programmers.

In big companies, it's the suits who call the shorts.

I can certainly say that programming is one of the most sure-fire ways to getting a job in games, as the mainstream education is perfectly applicable (just take a good computer science degree with a focus on math if you want to do 3D stuff).

There's paths via art, etc. as well but they are a bit tougher since artists tend to be dime a dozen these days. That's not to say that *good* ones aren't rare, but you need a small army to make a modern game, so there's a lot of competition.
