Idea For Maps

Post by Mike Babjak »

Hi,

I am just getting back into Myth after a few years away.

My discs are on the way from the wonderful land of eBay!

Not sure if this has been brought up, or tried, but I was thinking it would be cool if you could cause mudslides or avalanches with satchel charges.

Making the base of a cliff, or other high ground crumble when a few charges go off next to it would be a sweet effect.

Just my idea.

Good to be back playing Myth!

I might be possible but using models only. Similar to the Myth 2 level "The Wall".

There's that map that has a scripted avalanche. I think they use a TUNI to see if your units are in the area and that triggers the avalance. You could make a really small or invisible unit that can take like 3 satchels worth of damage, and have a TUNI that triggers the avalanche when your 3satchel units dies.

There's a cool little avalanche in Scourge of Belial using rock sprites and a TUNI script. Doesn't quite have the effect of a real avalanche, but I bet with enough tweaking of projectile groups, you could make it look pretty authentic. Perhaps create a few projectiles that invisibly detonate (ie no explosion effects or anything, so as not to hamper the avalanche effects) but with a mesh effect that dents the ground in question (the idea being that the ground where your boulders and projectiles just appeared from, actually broke off and changed the appearance of the landscape.

With enough trial and error, I'm sure it would work nicely.
