Stoned units - from the start

The same happened to me.
Now I might be talking folly here - but in Fear you might be able to doctor up a 'stoned' unit. That is to say, one that does not move, one that makes stone dust when it is hit, and one with it's colour heavily tinted grey. A world tint... no not that one. Something in the collection reference might do the trick.
As for body bits, I think they will be tinted if the rest is.

Okay I got the models but now I'm too dumb to do anything with 'em
Yes, it is possible to create a statue unit that way. The color of the body parts wouldn't matter, because you should replace its death projectile group with trow pieces anyway (although you might want to scale the pieces down a little).
I've never had the problem of units not being stoned when they're supposed to be, so I can't help you there.
