Jinn is as good as it gets. The maps and architecture stand out more than any other aspect of the plugin; they are, on the whole, the most stunning I have ever seen playing Myth. Jinn really takes you into another world--the settings, units, and storyline really create an immersive experience. And you'll find places in Jinn that you won't find anywhere else, like the massive sewer system that comprises level 2, and the exotic city of Nionel which manages to have enough architecture to actually look like a city (unlike any others I've seen in Myth). I haven't played the multis, but visually they are equally impressive.

The units are interesting, and there's a really nice variety. Someone notably complained on the Mill that Jinn's units are too much like standard Myth ones, in spite of the plugin's science fiction nature. I would argue that being set in the future on another planet doesn't mean it isn't fantasy; and I always loved how familiar the unitsets felt. It's interesting that in spite of all its differences, Jinn really feels like TFL in a lot of good, important ways. That's not to say you won't find really unique units here, like the drop-down "cling-bots," which you really have to see for yourself.

So in short: if you're looking for a mapset that is tremendously innovative and unique, and still manages to be Myth, and is absolutely 100% awesome, you should play Jinn. Like, right now.

Jinn takes place in a desert world with a strange and dense atmosphere. To create this atmosphere, Jinn makes unique use of models and complex map design in combination with a moving story. Jinn really has a superior quality.

The single player maps offer a wide set of locations (including a sewer system, ancient ruins and a populated city), nice scripting and always new surprises. I found it a bit difficult to get into the gameplay, but once I found the right strategies, it felt very intuitive.

The netgame maps also use a lot of models which makes them visually stunning. Unit sets and netgame targets are balanced very well. The battles are surprisingly fast and can sometimes be decided after the first seconds. Special characters from the single player levels also appear on the netgame maps and can play a major role.

Most of the units are intersting and can be used in multiple ways. Although I have to say that there could have been more varieties for the attacks.

One of the 'big three' along with Chimera and The Seventh God, JINN takes you to a post apocalypse style Sci-Fi world.

The story is a bit hard to follow, and it feels like the entire thing could be part of a bigger plot. I often found myself wondering about some things. Not to say it is bad, the world is quite rich with original writing and settings.

It's truthful to say that JINN will take you places no other plugin will come close to taking you. It's landscapes feel almost alien to Myth's general outdoor/green medieval style. Some of the maps feel like they could easily belong in a first person shooter, or something that is a lot more interactive.

The gameplay feels a bit like Myth 1, but in a lot of the wrong ways, feeling chancy, and random. To those used to M2 it may feel kind of loose. It's too bad they didn't take some time to iron out the gameplay just a little bit more.

Don't let that get in the way, however, of playing one of the most creative and interesting plugins you'll ever see for Myth.

Reminds of TFL because it doesn't really tell you where to go and hates you for asking questions.

Having recently taken a look at this again (2016) I'm floored by the level of innovation and discovery from all those years ago. Fantastic work. Probably way ahead of everyone, in those days.

Sadly, a lot of the story and character stuff is what we call "unreleatable". Hard to quantify that kind of intangible but it's definitely there. Kind of like the unpopularity of the bre'Unor unit. Same vibe.

Still, this is a triumph. No question.
