Colormap Problem - black dots all over
if you're doing it in photoshop, when you index, force the first two pixels to be black and white.
photoshop, when it saves an image as an indexed pict on a mac, seems to force the first colour index to white and the last to black (or vice versa), as i found out a long time ago. this makes the 240 colours that you so nicely indexed be jumped forward one space to make room for the new first index, and when you import into loathing this shows up as the nasty dots you saw.
forcing the first two pixels to be black and white when you index - or else saving as a bitmap and using something like graphicconverter to change format to pict - will save your colour map from dotty ugliness.
i hope.
good luck!
